High Performance
New Zealand started on the world boccia scene at the 1995 Sydney World Cup and like other sports, our kiwi athletes have consistently punched above their weight. Since then, New Zealand boccia athletes have finished in the top ten - and more often than not - top five rankings of their particular category.
For those who dream of reaching the pinnacle of the sport and who want to compete at the World Championships and Paralympic Games, boccia is a sport that requires a significant amount of skill and strategy. The top athletes in the world work hard to perfect their game, and display a high degree of muscle control, accuracy, concentration and tactical awareness.
New Zealand's pinnacle achievements so far include:
• Teams BC1 & 2 silver medal at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games
• Pairs BC3 bronze medal at the 2005 Asia South Pacific Championships
• Teams BC1 & 2 gold medal at the 2006 Rio World Championships
